I met Andrea Faass one year ago when I became a members of Fitness Canterbury New Beginnings. I had a goal to lose weight and get fit and decided the best way to achieve these results would be to register for the gyms popular 12 Week Challenge.

With Andrea’s expertise and an intensive customised exercise and nutrition program I was able to set some realistic goals towards fat loss, fitness, toning and nutrition.  Andrea’s encouragement gave me the enthusiasm and motivation to push myself a little harder whilst keeping the sessions interesting, fun and varied. As I began to lose the excess weight I found my general fitness and strength improving with a noticeable change in my body shape and muscle tone, core strength and posture. I became more positive in my outlook as my energy levels increased significantly. Andrea’s friendly manner, professional knowledge, quiet confidence and commitment in seeing me achieve my goals continued to keep me challenged and focused.

I’m pleased to report that on completing the 12 Week Challenge I lost 17.3kg placing 1st in the Female Weight Loss category.

After enjoying the success of achieving my goal I decided I needed a new challenge so along with my husband and two teenage children began training for the Buller Half Marathon which we ran and completed in February this year. I continue my personal training sessions with Andrea on a weekly basis to maintain my general fitness, health and wellbeing.

I am writing this testimonial for a couple of reasons.
Firstly, I decided to do the 12 Week Challenge which I firmly believe is not about winning any prizes, but about winning the challenge within yourself to undergo a lifestyle change. I personally lost 11.7kg, and a total of seven percent body fat which I am very happy with. I am now eating a lot healthier and also feeling better about myself generally. As such, I find it easier to bounce out of bed in the morning and get into my training, whereas before I struggled to even get up, let alone motivate myself to go to the gym.
I had to take a couple of weeks off during the challenge due to injury and I was touched when I heard that my trainer, Kent, was actually worried that I had not been in (not that he would ever admit that) and thought I might have given up. I will be the first to admit that I would not have done this had it not been for his encouragement from the outset.
Secondly, and more importantly, I have been to a few gyms over the last ten years and I can categorically say this is the best gym I have been to. The professionalism with which they operate astounds. It is very pleasing to be greeted by a friendly person no matter who is at the counter (yes, Scott, that includes you) and all of the personal trainers are outstanding and will bend over backwards to help you with any questions you have. All in all I firmly believe Fitness Canterbury has the best staff working for them.
It is very self assuring to see that the personal trainers actually put the time in to work out themselves, as it makes it easier to believe that, with a lot of hard work, you can reap the benefits as well.

Hi, my name is Richard Jefferies and I joined Fitness Canterbury in January 2010 weighing in at 121.1 kg. By July 2010 I had lost 28.8kgs, and a month later I weighed in at 90kg.
I now have more confidence and a positive attitude.
It was not easy to lose the weight, but with the help and support of all the staff, particularly my trainer Shane, I got it done.
Setting goals was a big factor to my weight loss, and Shane has shown me the way in using exercise and a healthy diet to achieve these goals.
I have been a member at other gyms, but I have never come close to the success I have had at Fitness Canterbury. It has been an amazing and enjoyable journey – and it is not over yet.
I now have new goals, and I am progressing with those at a rate I did not think possible, thanks again to Shane.

Hi, my name is Erin Black and at 45 I am in the best shape of my life, all thanks to the team at Fitness Canterbury.
I am a mum, a wife, and a teacher aide.
I have always battled with my weight, tried every diet out there, but I could never stick to anything long term. It was just too hard and I hated even the thought of exercise. I was too big and just could not do it.
My journey at Fitness Canterbury started in June 2010 and weighing in at 121kg I was desperately unhappy and not wanting to go anywhere or see anyone. Can you blame me? Anything had to be better than travelling this road any longer; my future was not looking too bright.
The gym scared the hell out of me to start with, but after meeting with Kent and getting a training and eating program that I could follow I was away and very determined.
Fitness Canterbury also offers a lot of classes so I thought I would give the boxing circuit a go. Wow! It was totally exhausting, but heaps of fun.
August rolled around. The gym holds a 12 Week Challenge every so often, and I thought “why not?” My goal was to lose 1kg a week for weeks; it was hard slog but 12 weeks later, with heaps of support from my trainer and fellow members, I achieved a loss of 13.4kg. I was stoked.
I have continued to eat well and exercise daily, and my weight is in the mid 80s mark now. So still a wee way to go, but I know when Spring rolls around I will be in fine shape.
The advice, support and motivation my trainer has given me during this process has been invaluable.
I would recommend and strongly encourage anyone wanting to lose weight, or just to gain more energy and a healthy outlook on life, try Fitness Canterbury. They offer a wide range of classes, it is very affordable and everyone is really friendly.
Fitness Canterbury is a place that can make dreams come true with top class trainers who really know their stuff.
